Virtual Native Plant Garden Presentation
Native plant enthusiast and UMaine Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Allan Amioka, with give an online presentation about why Native Plants are important for your garden (and anywhere really). The talk will also cover non-native and invasive plant species. Allan will also speak about the, currently in progress, Native Plant Garden as well as the UMaine Extension Pollinator-Friendly Garden Certification Program he is involved with. Laurie Bowen, UMaine Extension staff and Pollinator-Friendly Garden Certification Program Coordinator will be on the presentation as well.
Native plants are the backbone of a healthy, thriving, adaptable, enduring ecosystem. Not always appreciated – why would one call a valuable contributor a “weed”? – these essential plants are beginning to get their due, thanks to the recent work of Professor Doug Tallamy, researcher Dr. Annie White and Founder of Wild Seed Project, Heather McCargo to name a few. Everyone’s garden of any size can make a difference in supporting a beautiful, beneficial landscape. We look forward to seeing you there and at the South Berwick Library Garden.
