Yes, but with safety precautions. Please continue reading for guidance on our procedures during the Covid-19 health emergency.
How do I return my books?
Please return all of your materials to the outside book drop before coming into the building
I returned my items to the book drop but my account still says they are checked-out?
All items that are returned to the library are put into a 72 hour quarantine for safe handling. We will backdate all the items we check-in so you won’t be fined for being late.
Can I get items from other libraries?
The Interlibrary loan system is running again so you can request and place holds in the MILS system and from MaineCat if the item is available as you used to do.
Is there anything I need to know if I want to come to the library?
- All patrons over 2 years old must wear face masks.
- Children under 10 must be with an adult. The young children’s area is not open to children at this time.
- Five patrons can be in the building at a time in addition to staff.
- Don’t linger in the library building. Visits should be less than 30 minutes.
- If you are browsing and handle an item you don’t want, please leave it on the designated table so it can be quarantined for 72 hours.
- Please bring your library card.

What is available for children?
The summer reading program, “Imagine Your Story” is online this year and their are activity packets that can be picked up at the library. The program encourages reading, a fairy scavenger hunt, and crafts. Children old enough to follow Covid-19 safety protocols can choose materials in the older children’s and young adult section and say hello to the staff. All of the toys are gone and the Young Children’s area is open to adults only at this time.
What safety procedures do you have in place?
We are limiting the number of people in the building and everyone wears a mask at all times. The staff clean the public restroom daily and use contact-less practices whenever possible and safe handling practices when necessary. Plexi-glass barriers have been installed at the circulation desks for everyone’s safety.
If I don’t want to come into the building can I still get Curbside Service?
Yes, but you may have to wait longer for us to bring out your items.
Can I use a computer?
We have three public terminals available for use with a 30 minutes limit. Library staff will not be able offer help with computers at this time.
Can I use the printer?
Copies are .10 per side for black and white, .25 per side for color.
Can I get something faxed?
Library staff can fax documents for $1.00 per page.
When will programs start up again?
Some programs have continued online during the pandemic. The book discussion group meets every month via Zoom and other programs will be offered if they can be conducted in a safe manner. Larger libraries with more staff are creating virtual programs and most of the time they are happy to include patrons from other libraries. Check the Statewide Library Virtual Events Calendar for programs that you can attend online. In person children’s story time programs will be the last kind of program to resume.
Are you accepting donations for your book sale?
We are only accepting donations of items that are brand new in the last two years.
I have a card from another Maine library. Can I use it at the South Berwick Public Library?
The Maine reciprocal borrowing program is on pause right now.
